Pub-Cafe Manager - Individual or couple

The renovation of the Blue Bell in Stoke Ferry is going well and we need to take the next steps towards reopening as a community pub and cafe. If you would like to run a welcoming hub for a Norfolk village, we would love to hear from you.

The role and the person

What we can offer

  • A unique management opportunity to really help shape the development and growth of the pub-cafe

  • A great location at the heart of the attractive and historic town of Stoke Ferry; the pub is located a few minutes’ walk from the village’s historic core

  • The unquestionable support of a friendly and pro-active local community, over 400 shareholders, and a group of volunteers waiting to work closely with you to fully develop the pub’s potential as a community hub. We are all determined to see you succeed!

About you

We are looking for an individual or a couple who will be responsible for ensuring fantastic levels of service are always maintained. Previous experience of pub management, hospitality or working in a community-based business would be beneficial, but is not essential. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist with the promotion of the Blue Bell to ensure recognition as a community operated pub-cafe, working together with the Community Benefit Society and  its Management Committee for social impact

  • Overall responsibility for all staff to create a welcoming environment and correct ambience, which will contribute to achieving the highest professional standards.

  • Drive sales, cash management and reconciliation with accuracy and high levels of security

  • Awareness of changing Legislation relevant to the business, particularly with regard to Food Handling Standards and Health and Safety and latest COVID 19 regulations

  • Event experience, both organising and running events

Must haves

  • Resilience

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to lead by example at all times.

  • Strong organisational and communication skills, combined with energy and determination to achieve high standards of service.

  • Ability to  recognise the needs of all members of our community and to re-establish the Blue Bell as a fantastic pub-cafe within the village and surrounding district; one that is open to all our community for events and meetings as well as being a general meeting place.

  • Ability to lead and motivate varied personalities and teams of paid staff and volunteers with a consistent and positive attitude.

If all of this sounds exciting and of interest, we’d welcome a conversation with you about your ambitions and vision, and we can talk about where we are now with the ongoing development of the pub.
